to the großer Ahornboden

short tour description/route characteristics

a very beautiful tour especially in autumn, but which also has its special charm in spring and summer.

The route offers many beautiful lakes - the Haldensee in the Tannheimer-Tal, the Plansee, the Sylvenstein reservoir and not to forget the Walchensee, the Kochelsee and the Staffelsee.

Furthermore, the route is very varied and offers everything a motorcyclist's heart could wish for in terms of curves.

First the tour leads from Sonthofen to Hindelang and up to the Oberjoch. There you turn right into the Tannheimer-Tal. Passing the Haldensee you reach the Gaichtpass which leads down to Weissenbach. Via Reutte one continues to the Plansee. From there over the Ammersattel to Ettal and down to Garmisch-Partenkirchen. From there you go towards Mittenwald and further on via Krün to Wallgau. Here the toll road branches off to Vorderriß. Then it goes via Hinterriß to the Eng and thus to the Ahornboden.

The way back leads again to Vorderriß and then on to the Sylvenstein reservoir. At the end of the lake you turn left to the north. After about 10 km the road to Jachenau branches off. Passing the toll station, you come to the southern shore of the Walchensee, which you follow for several kilometres. Then further north and over the - mostly busy Kesselberg - down to Kochel at the lake of the same name.

From there turn left to Murnau and past Staffelsee via Uffing to Böbing and (there turn left) to Rottenbuch. Here it is worthwhile to visit the magnificent Barrock Church (see "Sonthofen - Hohenpeißenbergrunde").

Finally the tour leads via Steingaden, Lechbruck and Roßhaupten to Nesselwang and from there via Wertach and Rettenberg back to Sonthofen.
